“When you look good, you feel good. And when you feel good, you do good.”
Diane Hunt used to say. And because of this belief, she declared Thursday “suit day” for her two boys. I enjoyed that about working outside of the home; getting dressed for the day and looking my best.
Now that I stay home, I put much less thought into my appearance. Now let me stop to say that I believe there is a difference between vanity and caring about our appearance.
True beauty comes from within, isn’t conceited and exudes confidence. In my opinion, hair, fashion and make-up are just a reflection of that. So, I have made it a goal to get dressed for the day.
To help, I’ve started using the 7 x 7 principle, creating 7 different outfits out of 7 pieces of clothing.
I actually love the challenge of mixing and matching to maximize my wardrobe. The items above represent clothing from my own closet. With a few simple guidelines you can expand your wardrobe today.
~Start with neutrals.
Your neutrals are: navy, khaki, black, white, gray, olive and brown. I chose a pair of navy shorts and a pair of olive shorts.
~Play with color
Add coral, red, aqua, purple, emerald or whatever colors you like to wear. I chose coral, peach and aqua tops which can be worn with either pair of shorts. That is six outfits!
~Accessorize
Wear necklaces or scarves that incorporate all the colors in your outfit. Use scarves as belts. Bring in color with shoes.
The dress is a stand alone outfit for the week.
I feel like I got all new clothes, when all I did was shop my closet…and I don’t have a lot of clothes. Really.
But, I did get two new shirts at TJ Maxx last night. Just by shopping sensibly, I expanded my wardrobe by 5 outfits at least, and I’m sharing them today at Mrs. Hines’ Class.
I’d love for you to come see my new clothes!

Sharon, I love your 7 x 7 rule! I’m going to head into “shop” my own closet and try to put it into action as I pack for vacation. Fun yet practical fashion tips – very cool! Thanks for sharing your know-how!
Cheers to you and yours,

This is a great way to pack light, Therese. And it really feels like you’ve gone shopping after you reimagine what’s in your closet. Have fun with it!
