DIY Shoelaces for Kids {or you!}

DIY Shoelaces for Kids {or you!}

It’s back to school time and whether that’s a yay or a nay it’s a great time to make some quick crafts with or for the kids.  Let the kids show their school spirit by making some quick and easy fabric shoelaces.  You can use a combination of their school colors or just any colors that match their ‘outfit of the day’.  The pair I made for myself is a cupcake fabric pattern {of course!}.

All you need is a total of 3 inches {wide} of fabric and the entire length of the fabric {usually a standard 45 inches}.

I cut a total of 6 strips of fabric from selvage edge to selvage edge 3/8″ wide.  I used a rotary cutter to speed up the process.

Place three strips of the fabric together and duct tape it to a solid surface such as a table or counter top and start braiding.  Hold the strips taut but not too tight.  You want a nice firm braid but you don’t want it so tight that the strips are too skinny and not noticeable.  {these pictures are terrible ~ I had my little guy ~ who can’t sit still for nothin’ ~ hold the braid while I took pictures….I hope you don’t get dizzy looking at these}.  Once you have completed the braid end to end tie a nice tight knot at each end and lace-up your shoes.

And their you have it ~ some easy DIY shoelaces that are totally customizable.
