Homemade English Muffins

Homemade English Muffins

Hello again..this is Pamela from Flower Patch Farmhouse.
It is that time of year!
Colorful leaves are fluttering on a cool Autumn breeze, chipmunks are scurrying to get the last of the acorns stashed for winter and I get the urge to bake.
They say it is a natural physiological response to crave carbs as the days shorten and cool off.  Our bodies are preparing us to endure the cold winter months approaching.
  I’m good with that.
So time to get baking and enjoying some yummy things that soothe that craving.
I have wanted to try my hand at homemade English Muffins for a long while and finally I did.
  Oh Glory!  They are delish!
The kids would love them and breakfast sandwiches are so fast and easy to make before school.
Home made english muffinsThe photos show them as breakfast sandwiches but trust me they are just as scrumptious with butter and jam.
What is so interesting to me is you don’t bake English Muffins, you cook them on a griddle or fry pan.  Here are mine on the griddle.
The grainy stuff you see is dry Cream of Wheat.
The recipe called for Farina or Semolina to coat the pan with and the only thing I knew of that was Farina is Cream of Wheat.
It worked just fine.
English Muffins (1 of 1)Now for the recipe.  I followed this one ENGLISH MUFFINS
It was much easier than I anticipated and I got it right the first time.
Just be sure and cook them slowly so the insides get done.
I stored mine in the refrigerator after cooking.
They have no preservatives that prevents them from getting moldy before you eat them all up so keeping them in the fridge is the way to go.
I used my bread machine on the dough setting, love that thing, it makes it so easy.
If you are interested in getting one try the thrift stores.
I got mine for $4 and have used it extensively.
Thankfully the recipe tells you how to do it by hand or with a KitchenAid stand mixer too.
Next I want to try the Sour Dough English Muffins or the Whole Grain.
This recipe is a keeper for me and I will definitely be making more.
