How to sharpen paper punches
Don’t throw away those blunt paper punches…
I have a tip that will have them punching on for a long while yet!
Most of us crafty types have a few paper punches in our crafting supplies kit.
Whether you are a big paper crafter, into scrapbooking or just a crafty dabbler, these cheap little punches are always a supply essential.
BUT… they do seem to go blunt quite quickly.
If you’ve ever worked on a bigger project requiring a lot of punched paper pieces, I’m sure you’ll know the frustration of using a blunt punch.
Gosh… I’ve even resorted to standing on them a few times to get that last paper flower cut out.
After that they get tossed in the bin!!
Well, not any more… not now that I know this very helpful tip.
Have you ever heard a tip and thought “If only I had known that”…
Hmm, that’s what happened to me when I heard how easy it is to sharpen blunt punches.
It’s as simple as using your punch on a piece of foil… truly, that’s all it takes!
I do find that foil tears very easily inside the punch, so I usually place a sheet of silicon paper under the foil and punch through two layers at the same time. The added bonus… I get a supply of pretty translucent flowers to use with other projects.
So stop throwing those blunt paper punches away and try this foil punching tip to extend their life.

WOW if I only knew , I should have ,as that is how you sharpen scissors , so it makes sense really .
Thanks for the tip !
This is a very useful tip that someone showed me when I was struggling with one of my punches – I thought I had ruined a punch trying to cut flowers out of grunge paper (a tad on the thick side for most punches) but a friend rescued it for me.
Good old Tin-Foil should be in everyone’s crafting stash.

Great tip! Thank you! But what is “silicon paper?” Is it the same as vellum? Thanks!
Maybe using “heavy duty” foil will work just as well but not rip so easily? Just a thought. ♡
I’ve done this and used some of the aluminum foil punched items. If you are careful they are fun to decoupage, I sharpen my scissors monthly. Use the strips the same way…. can be fun!
How do I unstick a punch that is stuck? Thank you
I get my son to get them unstuck…he’s handy to have around! Lol! Hi Cynthia Urias Blackwell! ❤
