I love to garden, but what I don’t love is lugging around heavy garden tools. Who does?
My husband knows this, and shortly after we moved into our home – with a real yard and gardens for the first time – he came home from the hardware store with a surprise for me. This surprise gift made me so happy and has been one of my most favorite gifts he’s ever given to me.
Yes, it’s a petite garden shovel!
Trust me, if you do any serious gardening, such as digging holes to plant shrubs, or digging up and transplanting larger plants, you need to use a shovel. And this tiny little gem makes quick work of any shoveling or digging I need to do.
My petite garden shovel is made by Bond and can be found in most hardware stores or online. It’s lightweight, which is fantastic, yet it’s really tough.
You can see the wear and tear on mine.
I use it any time I have to plant perennials, shrubs, grasses, larger vegetable plants, small trees – you name it!
Here’s my shovel next to my husband’s shovel:
I swear his shovel is almost as tall as me!
The right tools do make a difference, and when you aren’t weighed down – literally – by heavy garden tools, you’ll get a lot more gardening accomplished!
And the couple that shovels together, stays together. OK, I just made that up!
Do you have a favorite gardening tool?
Happy planting!
Can I say my husband is my favorite garden tool? He’s tough and strong and does dishes too!

I have or had one too! so handy and easy to handle. I am nearly 6′ tall and find that I have to bend a lot to see what I’m digging! With a short shovel, I can do my digging on my knees! Now, if I can just find it! LOL
That’s a good point, Cathy! My husband is over 6 feet tall and there are times he will use this one instead of his usual shovel! Hope you can find yours! ๐

What a great idea! I think I’ll just have to buy one myself. Thanks, Laura ๐
