Simple Changes For A Dining Room

Simple Changes For A Dining Room

We are all looking for ways to decorate our homes and not break the bank.I wanted to share some simple changes I made to my dining room just shopping my house and using some recent thrift shop finds.
It’s no secret if you know me then you know that I find most of my home decor including furniture at thrift shops.

This china was a recent thrift shop find and it works perfectly in here to add some color.

Just a bit of color is all that was needed to change this piece.

Another recent change I made to this room was adding a few pieces of furniture I already had on hand.

It’s always fun to shop your own house!

I already had this chair and was selling it at a vintage market show. But it did not sell.No worries I am actually  glad it didn’t because it looks great in this spot.I found this chair at a thrift store and painted it with Annie Sloan chalk paint. It looks and feels leather. And is very comfortable too!

This credenza was in my studio.Since I am changing things in that room I  no longer needed it there.I was looking for something to hold some extra dishes…oh yes I have plenty of those. And my extra napkins and table clothes I have plenty of those too! This was a great solution. I painted this a while ago with Miss Mustard Seeds milk paint.

That is my second French bottle rack.It is the same as the one in my kitchen. But I am only adding a few cups to this one.The French bottle rack was found at Decor Steals.

Sometimes you can find  cool things in your own backyard. This was a birds nest someone was discarding.I saw the beauty in this and rescued it.Previously it was in my kitchen and now has a home here on this wire stand.

Adding some fresh flowers from your garden or from a field is a great way to freshen up a room.In the winter and cold months pine cones and twigs are great too.

This bunch of Queen Anne’s lace is growing in a field near our home.My daughter picked a handful to use in this ironstone pitcher.

A pretty tinted glass bottle is something that was found cheaply and adds just a bit of color.

So you see it is very easy to change a room.It does not have to involve moving furniture or painting. But changing a few accessories and even shopping your own home can bring new life to a home.

  1. A girl after my own heart….I shop my own house, use what I already have, cut flowers from outside…and I even have a real bird’s nest!

These are great ideas, Anne! And your dining room looks beautiful. Mine is a wreck right now, because it’s in transition. On Sunday, I’m going to pick up some bookcases that I bought from online classifieds and that will get the dining room makeover ball rolling. I can’t wait!

  2. Luv it Anne. Luv… luv the dishes.
Last season I too was able to get a birds nest from the back garden and I have placed it in an antique wash stand in the basin with some faux eggs.
I am waiting to reveal my lighter brighter dining room. But the photog is only available in afternoons and evenings and we have had rains every day in the pm hours… so we are waiting for good light.
