March 2nd earlier this week marked the birthday of Dr. Seuss, whose books are more popular than ever. And with the popularity of the books and the movies, there’s an ongoing desire to create DIYs and crafts for Dr. Seuss-themed parties and events.
In this spirit, here’s my Super Easy DIY Truffula Trees, perfect for your Lorax-inspired or Seuss-themed fun!
It all starts with these basic dishwashing sponges found at the dollar store:
The sponges are the perfect truffula tree tops!
Your local dollar store is a great place to find basic glass vases too. Stick the dishwashing sponges into the vases, and add some colored shred to cover up the sponge handles.
After a bit of fluffing and adjusting, you’ve got yourself a set of truffula trees that The Lorax would be happy to save!
What I love about this DIY is that it doesn’t take long to put together plus it’s super-inexpensive, which is key if you need to put together several trees as decorations.
For another Lorax-themed party idea, check out my miniature Truffula Tree Cupcake Toppers – also made with items you can find at your local dollar store.
Enjoy!

Aren’t these adorable?! Your creativity never ceases to amaze me, Laura.: ) The best part about this craft is that when it’s time to put the Truffula trees away, you can always use the sponges for their intended purpose!
Hah! Such a great idea Pat! And thank you for your sweet compliments! 🙂
