Out in my yard the daffodils are blooming, the crocus and scillia are nodding their heads in the breeze, the Virginia Bluebells are peeking up out of the ground, and the tulips are making their appearance. I’m so so happy that it’s tulip time out in the yard! Although they’re not blooming yet, I thought I’d share some of my tulip photos from the past year, along with some fun tulip facts!
Did you know … tulips are native to Central Asia?
They did not originate in Holland and first started blooming there in 1594.
The word “tulip” comes from the Persian word “delband” which means turban.
The Netherlands is currently the largest producer of tulips, producing about 3 billion bulbs per year!
The tulip is the national flower of both Turkey and Afghanistan.
There are about 3,000 varieties of tulips to date!
The most popular tulips are red varieties. The most famous tulip is Queen of the Night and is almost black.
What’s your favorite color tulip? Obviously mine is pink!
And I’m so happy that it’s almost tulip time in the garden!
