It has been a harsh and cold winter for so many of us here in the United States and Canada and while we’re busy keeping ourselves warm, safe and dry let’s not forget our feathered friends. Yesterday morning amidst the snow and cold I heard the birds chirping merrily and it made me smile thinking of spring but I felt so bad for them!
Last year my youngest son and I made some hanging bird feeders and they were a huge hit for both the birds and my son. It’s an easy ‘craft’ to make and my son had so much fun watching the birds eat from the feeder and then refilling it when it was almost empty.
Supplies:
Orange
Bird Seed
Twine or string
Cut the orange in half and scoop out the inside {have an adult do this step}.
Make a hole on each side of the orange and use string to hang ~ fill with bird seed.
Now have the kids bundle up and hang the feeders from tree branches in the yard on trees that they can easily see ~ it’s so nice to watch the little birds find these unexpected treats and have a feast!
I would love to have you stop by my blog, Cupcakes and Crinoline where I share recipes, crafts and small DIY projects. You can also find me on FB, twitter, G+ and Pinterest.
What a great idea this is! And I like how the orange color pops against the snowy background too! I heard a bird chirping the other morning too – and thought perhaps – just perhaps – Spring is just around the corner! 🙂

Thanks so much, Laura! They do give some nice color to the otherwise white and grey around here right now.
