Making Paper Towel Roll Ornaments

Christmas is definitely upon us…it’s all around us singing…sparkling..and shopping!  It’s a crazy, expensive time of the year.  I’m IN LOVE with this holiday…but I really hate what it has become.  I hate the money that gets spent…the materialistic values that America, in general has embraced.  Most of y’all know how I love my junk..and recycled treasures.  If you haven’t figured it out yet…You will…give me time! ๐Ÿ˜€  I love making decor and decorating with junk.  Today I’m showing you two simple paper towel ornaments .  These are so easy…and really fast.  They can be painted any color you like…depending on your scheme each year.  They are so simple…that they are the absolute PERFECT project to share with your kids or grandkids.  I think ornaments on a tree that are hand made…or the most meaningful, and precious.  They are the ornaments that will still be with you years from now…or at least in your heart.

Speaking of which….I’m making an adorable poinsettia over at Deja Vue Designs today, for a holiday handmade Christmas tour.   Can you believe that’s water bottles?

I’m also joining a virtual Christmas Cookie Exchange….I’d love for you to stop by and check them both out….You’re gonna LOVE those cookies! YUMMY!  You’ll also find out why my name ISN’T June Cleaver! ๐Ÿ˜€

I made these from one paper towel roll.  In fact, if you cut them about the same width as mine, you should be able to get exactly one of my large ornaments and two small ones….or six small ornaments.  How fun is that.  So, if you’re a room mom…this is PERFECT for a party project!  I know we can go through two rolls of paper towels in no time!

Start with your roll…duh! lol   Cut it into approximately 1/4″ strips.  I used 14 stripes for my large ornament…and 4 for the smaller ornaments.

Now crease them flat…so that you have more of an eye shape…rather than a circle.

Take one pointed end…and push it inwards slightly…and crease it.

This is the basic shape for both large and small ornaments…so get bending folks! ๐Ÿ˜€

To make the larger ornaments…begin by gluing two of these shapes together in the corners of the bent end.

Now…stack one more…on either opposing end, gluing in the INSIDE corner of the one you’re adding…see below.

Now repeat this step for the other end…and once again on both of these.  Then add two on either side… Still with me?

Now catty corner one between each side.

Then add a ribbon or wire for a holder…and that’s it.  That one sounds confusing…but follow the pictures and you’ll do fine.

The smaller one…is super fast and REALLY easy….it’s four of these same shapes glued together.

Only instead of gluing the two corners together…it’s four.  See above.  Now attach a hanger.

Why YES…yes the picture is blurry…don’t judge! lol  Hey…these would be perfect to place a picture behind them..and put colored tissue paper on…they would look like stained glass! ๐Ÿ˜€

Now paint them up…any color you like!

See how easy…and fun!
