Sunflower Seed and Honey Wheat Bread

Sunflower Seed and Honey Wheat Bread

Sunflower Seed & Honey Wheat Bread 2

 Is there anything as good as fresh home baked bread? {Okay….maybe there are but you have to admit that fresh bread is pretty hard to beat.}

I love it ~ I am a bread girl ~ honestly….give me a fresh loaf of bread and some REAL Butter and I am happy as a clam.  Add some honey and sunflower seeds and this bread has my name written all over it.  It’s one of my newest go-to breads.  It is so tasty and the whole family loves it.  It’s perfect for sandwiches, toast and with soups or stews.  Heck, I love to have it as a snack at night with butter and jam.

  2. 3 1/4 cups warm water {110 degrees to 115 degrees}
  3. 1/4 cup bread flour
  4. 1/3 cup canola oil
  5. 1/3 cup honey
  6. 3 teaspoons salt
  7. 6 1/2 to 7 1/2 cups whole wheat flour
  8. 1/2 cup sunflower kernels
  9. 3 tablespoons butter, melted

  2. Turn onto a floured surface; knead until smooth and elastic, about 6-8 minutes. Place in a greased bowl, turning once to grease the top. Cover and let rise in a warm place until doubled, about 1 hour.
  3. Punch dough down; divide into three portions. Shape into loaves; place in three greased 8-in. x 4-in. loaf pans. Cover and let rise until doubled, about 30 minutes.
  4. Bake at 350° for 35-40 minutes or until golden brown. Brush with melted butter. Remove from pans to wire racks to cool.

  3. Mmmm…. homemade bread. Like you Mary Beth, I’m a huge fan of bread and bakery products and love making my own. We went through a stage where we got really inventive with the breads and pull-a-parts we made, but we all started putting on weight. Now we save our homemade breads for weekends and special occasions, so I’ll be adding your recipe to my bread collection…. thank you 🙂
