Shabby Candle Covers
Before I start…let me just say… Happy Veteran’s Day! If you are…or know some one in the service….THANK YOU…from the bottom of my heart!!!
Many of you might not know it, but shabby chic…is definitely my style. Everything that falls within those parameters, fits within my genre. Cottage, Romantic, beach…even country. I love anything that tells a story. Shabby Candle Covers came to mind, after I finished my shabby flower tutorial last week on Deja Vue Designs. They wear a hit. I really did think, that I was one of a dwindling few left that loved the shabby chic style. I would be WRONG. Apparently it’s stilled loved by the masses….so I’m gonna share this with y’all…and you can see how to make the gorgeous flower on through the link above if you want to make one. Did anyone, besides MOI watch Rachel Ashwell’s Shabby Chic? I loved that show. I wish that even reruns would come on. So lovely and soft. I’m pretty sure…that it was she…that coined that term “shabby chic”. Anyway, I’ve been playing, and I’ve come up with a beautiful way to make those old ugly candle containers into something gorgeous. Then, when the candle’s all gone…it can become something useful: like a pen holder…or whatever. I can just see this gorgeous thing sitting on my desk.
Materials:
- Scraps of beautiful fabric….just whatever you have laying around that looks fabulous for what you want.
- Hot glue gun
- Scissors
- Trimmings
Instructions:
Take the fabric that you want the most of showing, and put it on first….it will span the widest. I made mine completely cover the outside of the jar. Be sure when you’re gluing it…that you bunch it up as you go.
Make sure you trim the top edge down to the rim of the jar….we don’t want any edges catching the house on fire….You’ve been warned!
I just glue a little…and scrunch. Don’t glue all the way to the top and bottom of the jar…you want to be able to fray the edges in the end. Once you’ve gone all the way around your container….get your next fabric. bring it down, where the first fabric sticks up above it. Now scrunch and glue…all the way around. Don’t worry too much about how the middle of the container looks…we’re going to add a ribbon in the end.
At this point. I added a ribbon…and then some jute and frayed it. But really…I like just the ribbon better…so I guess that’s a live and learn experience. You’re gonna have to decide for yourself, how much is enough.
Then I topped mine of with one of my shabby flowers.
Now…it will look pretty while it’s going…and after the candle’s gone…I’ll have a great container for my pens and pencils on my desk.
Love Y’all! Tammy

So pretty, Tammy!!
Thanks Jennifer. I hate looking at “brand” labels. 😀
Very pretty. I had already decided that I would be using natural items for Christmas 2013 and burlap is a big part of my Christmas plans. Can’t wait to make this. Absolute Beautiful.
